Abstract The author approaches Turkish identity as a case study to analyse the constitutional theories that have been developed in Europe in order to explain Western characteristics of the “Islamic Country/Nation”. Moreover, he tackles the constitutional concepts used in Turkey and explains why it is difficult to consider them similar to those belonging to the European tradition. In conclusion, the author raises the issue of mutual recognition between the European Union and Islamic democracies. |
