Abstract Governments, as the single largest consumer in the marketplace, can exert great influence via their public procurement policies. Green Public Procurement is the approach by which Public Authorities integrate environmental criteria into all stages of their procurement process. It increases demand for environmentally sound goods and services, helping them to conquer market shares and, in the long term, improve the market’s competitiveness at local, national, European and international level. Against this backdrop, the Author explores the legal framework for Green Public Procurements in multilevel environmental governance and their role in the diffusion and implementation of effective global sustainable development policies. |
