Abstract This article, starting from the illustration of the main characteristics of genetic information and the explanation of the meaning of the expression “genetic privacy” in both US and European context, analyses one of the most problematic aspects linked to the circulation of genetic information. In fact, genetic data are shared with family members, so that when a person disposes of his own information, his decision can affect also other people’s life. This situation imposes the law to consider also the rights of people other than the party concerned, and sets off a more relational dimension of privacy. |
