Abstract Provincial competence for universities, coexistence of public and private model, two official languages, federal responsibility for aboriginal education, autonomy of each institution and financial support for students: these are the fundamental traits of the Canadian university system. Most of these features were first affirmed in the British North America Act in 1867 and then reiterated in the 1982 Constitution Act. |
