Abstract The present crisis of U.S. financial markets is giving rise to a new debate around perspectives of American capitalism. Along the history, the relationship between market and economic regulation in United States shows that there is a direct proportionality between periodical crisis of financial markets and the passing of emergency legislation aimed to increase investors’ protection. The topic of the essay is an illustration of the principal features of U.S. regulation of financial markets since the beginning of New Deal’s legislation until the present evolution towards a New Economic Regulation after a period of deregulation of the markets. The last plan of a Financial Regulatory Reform by the Department of Treasury and Finance of Obama’s Administration includes the widest reform of U.S. economic regulation of financial markets since the New Deal. |
