Abstract The article’s topic is the protection of savings in Sweden. After a brief presentation of the history of legislation on savings, the Swedish banking and financial system is described. Then, an entire paragraph is dedicated to the analysis of the most significant public laws on savings, like the Banking and Financing Business Act (Lag 2004:297 om bank– och finansieringsrörelse) and the Securities Market Act (Lag 2007:528 om värdepappersmarknaden). The last part of the article deals with instruments for protection of consumers and with the role of banking and financial authorities. Approaching the financial crisis that struck Nordic countries, and in particular Sweden, at the beginning of Nineties and the present global financial crisis gives the occasion for taking some lessons for the future and describing the principal interventions of Swedish institutions to face the present serious recession. |
