Abstract A formal and organic Constituion has yet to be adopted in Israel where two radically different positions, for and against, prevail. The first is progressive, highly innovative, and has the backing of the leading parties of the left. The second is conservative and linked to and conditioned by religious elements and their allies who fear change will affect the role of religion and its principles in the constitutional set-up. |
