Abstract This article analyses the recent reform of article 6 of the French Constitution. The constitutional reform reduces from seven to five years the tenure of the President of the Republic office. This work first looks at the origins of the “septennat” and at reform projects discussed in the past. It then focuses on the revision proceedings. In fact, in only five months, the Parlement has approved the reform and the President has called the people to ratify the bill by referendum. The referendum, that took place the last 24th september, has had the higher rate of astension in the election history of the V Republic. |
