Abstract

At present in Italy and other countries, there is an ongoing debate over attempts to increase the number of women elected in legislative bodies. This paper deals with the reasons behind the recent constitutional reforms (mainly Italy and France), as well as the different ways of achieving equality between men and women. It focuses especially on the legitimacy of affirmative action to promote sexual equality in political representation.
