Abstract This article deals with the introduction and the institutional organization of the Regions in Hungary. Act n. XXI of the year 1996 on Regional Development and Spatial Organization has introduced two different kinds of regions in this State: The so called “planning and statistical Regions” and the “development Regions”. The article focus on the relationship between Regions and Counties considering that in Hungary the traditional unit of territorial administration was the County. Moreover it deeps the evolution of the process of decentralisation in central Europe and the actual role and powers of sub national entities in this area. |
