Abstract The article introduces the reader to the monographic section on the display of religious creed in the public sphere. With references to the single articles dedicated to single countries and to the stances of representatives of various religious communities, the article underlines the main issues of controversy. It considers the different and contested conceptions of laicism as well as some of the distinguishing features of the rules regulating this matter. The introduction ends by addressing some of the possible legislative or jurisdictional solutions to these problems. |
