Abstract The article deals with the peculiar characteristics of the Israeli legal system with regard to the religious sphere. In fact the influence of Hebrew Law is not only limited to matters of personal status. Political choices inspired by Judaic principles and supported by religious political parties obviously have an effect on both the public and private life of Israeli citizens. Moreover, the definition of Israel as a «Hebrew and Democratic» State implies that the Supreme Court has a duty to give great consideration to religious values when these contrast with secular instances. |
