Abstract

This paper analyses the remuneration system of the Anglican clergy with special attention to England. The Church of England is at the core of the Anglican community, the mother of all the Churches which constitute the Anglican denomination. Its constitutional position in the BritishState and its unique history provide an interesting example of how ancient juridical concepts are retained in a modern context. The juridical instruments adopted by the Church to “pay” the clergy are still linked to the benefice, even if the management of the sources of financial income is centralised and administrated like a modern trust. All the components of the clergy’s stipend are taken into consideration and examined in the context of relations between Church and State.
