Abstract Political corruption, a serious problem in Brazil, would appear to involve the President Lula da Silva, however so far he has not been impeached. The reasons for non-impeachment political and juridical i.e. to avoid damaging the country and, in particular, the economy. Many Brazilian authors claim that impeachment is not a mandatory procedure. According to the author of this article this is a violation of the principle of equality. In other words nobody – including the President of Republic – should be allowed to avoid being brought to justice: impeachment should be mandatory and only juridical reasons should be used to avoid it. |
