Abstract The Author describes the evolution of the Provedor de Justiça in Portugal, starting from the 1975 up the latest legislative reforms. He analyses the powers from both a substantive and procedural standpoint and in comparison with the general constitutional system. The article then examines the opportunities offered by the office to constitutional integration of rights and freedoms in Portugal. |
